Can Blum fittings also be installed on thin cabinet sides?
Our EXPANDO T fixing system can be used to attach mounting plates and cabinet profiles to thin cabinet sides. To enable this, we have developed the EXPANDO T single dowel. This gives you even more flexibility when designing cabinets. We would be happy to show you how to correctly install EXPANDO T single and what you need to be aware of when doing so.
The first step is selecting the material for the thin cabinet side. We recommend using CDF or harder materials for this purpose, for example HPL-plates and mineral composits.
The next step is preparing the cabinet side. To do so, bore holes with a diameter of 10 mm and a depth of at least 6 mm. The number of drill holes differs depending on the fitting.
You need M4 screws to connect the fitting to the EXPANDO T single. You can obtain these from specialist retailers. The length of the M4 screws depends on the elements to be attached. The graphic below will help you make your selection:

Once you have selected all the necessary elements and prepared the front, the fitting can be fixed. Place the EXPANDO T single in the drill hole, position the element to be attached, screw in the M4 screw and fully tighten it.
As with the EXPANDO T fittings, the following minimum torque requirements also apply for the EXPANDO T single:
The following rule of thumb applies: the harder the material, the tighter the screw connection will need to be. But do not worry, the fixing system does not damage easily. Nonetheless, it is advisable to play it safe by carrying out checks during the first few installations using a standard torque screwdriver. We generally recommend a trial application to test the new fixing system in combination with the material.
